At least three different theoretical views of language and the nature of language proficiency explicitly or implicitly inform current approaches and methods in language teaching. The first, and the most traditional of the three, is the structural view, according to which language is a system of structurally related elements for the coding of meaning. The target of language learning is seen to be the mastery of elements of this system, which are generally defined in terms of phonological units (e.g. phonemes), grammatical units (e.g. clauses, phrases, sentences), grammatical operations (e.g. adding shifting, joining, or transforming elements), and the lexical items.

The second view of language is the functional view, in which language is a vehicle for the expression of functional meaning. The communicative movement in language teaching subscribes to this view of language. This theory emphasizes the semantic and communicative dimension rather than merely the grammatical characteristics of language and leads to a specification and organization of language teaching content by categories of meaning and function rather than by elements of structure and grammar.

The third view of language can be called the interactional view. It sees language as a vehicle for the realization of interpersonal relations and for the performance of social transactions between individuals. Language is seen as a tool for the creation and maintenance of social relations. Interactional theories focus on the patterns of moves, acts, negotiation, and interaction found in conversational exchanges.

📝 Resolução Comentada – Questão 49
🧭 1️⃣ Leitura orientada | Nível: Médio

A questão cobra um princípio fundamental da Passive Voice: apenas verbos transitivos, isto é, aqueles que possuem objeto direto, podem ser transformados para a voz passiva.

O exemplo apresentado no texto já aparece na voz passiva:

Language is seen as...

O verbo see é transitivo e possui objeto direto, permitindo naturalmente essa transformação.

active

↓

transitive verb

↓

passive voice

Assim, basta identificar qual alternativa também contém um verbo que admite essa conversão.

🔍 2️⃣ Análise das alternativas

(A) ✅ One should avoid some sentences in passive voice.

Correta.

O verbo avoid é transitivo e possui objeto direto (some sentences).

One should avoid some sentences.

↓

Some sentences should be avoided.

Portanto, a frase admite transformação para a voz passiva.

(B) ❌ Elizabeth II was Queen...

O verbo be funciona como verbo de ligação.

Não há objeto direto para ser promovido a sujeito.

(C) ❌ She is having trouble...

A construção idiomática have trouble doing something não gera uma passiva natural em inglês.

(D) ❌ He could run 3 miles...

Run é empregado de forma intransitiva.

Three miles indica extensão percorrida, não objeto direto.

(E) ❌ Is there a language...?

Trata-se de uma construção existencial com there is.

Não admite transformação para a voz passiva.

🧠 3️⃣ Resumo B3GE™ Master
  • Somente verbos transitivos admitem voz passiva.
  • É indispensável existir objeto direto.
  • Avoid possui objeto direto e permite a transformação.
  • As demais alternativas não apresentam estrutura passivizável.

Chunk family:

  • passive voice

🎯 Classificação B3GE™
Passive Voice

A questão avalia o reconhecimento das condições estruturais necessárias para transformar uma oração da voz ativa para a voz passiva. O candidato deve identificar qual sentença possui um verbo transitivo acompanhado de objeto direto, condição indispensável para a formação da Passive Voice.

⚙️ Motor da questão:
transitive verb → direct object → passive voice
🎯 Insight de Prova
active sentence → direct object → passive sentence

O núcleo da questão não está em reconhecer uma frase na voz passiva, mas em verificar se a oração da voz ativa possui a estrutura necessária para sofrer essa transformação.

A regra é simples: apenas verbos transitivos que apresentam objeto direto permitem a formação da voz passiva. Sem objeto direto, não existe elemento que possa ocupar a posição de sujeito na nova estrutura.

transitive verb + direct object ✔

linking / intransitive verb ✘

A armadilha da banca consiste em apresentar frases com verbos bastante comuns (be, have, run) que não atendem aos requisitos da passivização naquele contexto. O candidato precisa analisar a função sintática desempenhada pelo verbo, e não apenas identificar seu significado.

One should avoid some sentences.

↓

Some sentences should be avoided.
